The story of Livar, Limburg’s renowned Monastery Pork, begins at Lilbosch Abbey in Echt, in the heart of Limburg. Since 1999, the abbey has partnered with small-scale pig farmers across the region to raise Livar pigs according to the same high standards of care and craftsmanship. Livar pork has been awarded the prestigious Beter Leven 3-star animal welfare certification by the Dutch Society for the Protection of Animals.

As Livar’s reputation for exceptional pork grew, the monastery farm could no longer accommodate demand. Carefully selected farms throughout Limburg were brought into the network, where the pigs continue to be raised under the same conditions and values established at the abbey.

Since 2009, Livar has operated its own butchering facility, where every pig is expertly processed into premium-quality products that reflect the brand’s dedication to craftsmanship, animal welfare, and outstanding taste.

At Wroeters, animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do. Our distinctive outdoor pigs are carefully bred from specially selected heritage breeds and raised on small-scale farms across the Netherlands. There, they enjoy the freedom to roam both indoors and outdoors, foraging and rooting naturally in the Dutch countryside.

Our pigs are fed a carefully balanced diet of premium Dutch-grown grains and always have access to fresh, running water. Combined with dedicated, attentive care, these conditions create the rich, full flavour that makes Wroeters pork truly exceptional.

Giving our pigs a carefree, natural life is one of our highest priorities—and it’s something you can taste in every bite.

At present, Wroeters pork is available exclusively to businesses operating in the foodservice and catering sectors.

Meat Limburg supplies pork from outdoor-reared pigs to food manufacturers developing their own private label brands. Our pork is available with or without the Beter Leven 2- or 3-star animal welfare certification, providing high-quality ingredients backed by transparent production standards and a strong commitment to responsible farming.
